PRODUCT CARE

Knowing Silver

  • We use 925 fine silver to create these pieces, they are a solid casting.  Silver however is a softer metal and should be consciously worn.  Over time the jump ring may wear and get thin.  A quick inspection from time to time to make sure the jump ring is round and thick is good.  If a jump ring becomes thin any local jeweler will be able to solder a new silver jump ring for a small charge.

  • For the main body of the piece it has a high polish top surface and recessed darker surface that is antiqued with an acid wash.  Over time the piece will tarnish.  The recessed parts are designed to tarnish more over time and as the piece ages.  The high polish areas will tarnish but not as easy.  However, over time you’ll see discoloring to the surface.  With a fine silver or soft leather cloth you can buff by hand those areas of the piece to bring back it’s luster.  This will remove the tarnish and some small scratches.  DO NOT use tarnish removing liquid chemicals for this will remove the Antiqued acid finish.  Even heavy cleaners will affect the antiqued portions of the piece.  To wash the piece warm water and very small amount of dish soap can be used.  Normal shower use should not affect it but heavy water can also have an effect to silver.  Swimming pools may over time effect the finish of the metal, so it is also recommended to remove before such activities.

  • The Chain is a standard stainless-steel ball chain.  It is only as strong as it’s weakest link.  Prior to opening your dog tag, you would have noticed the chain is separate and not attached to the dog tag.  You’ll have to string the chain through the bail and clip together the clasp.  Over time that clasp point can loosen and stretch open.  With a simple small pliers, you can gently squeeze the sides together.  The chain can also be hand polished by a cloth or soft leather.
